In May after sigmoid surgery and chemo ( 12 rounds of Folfox) I was given the great news that my cancer had disappeared including small tumour on my liver. I was told I would be taken off treatment and they would scan me initially on a 3 monthly basis.I had my MRI and Ct scans on 25th July with a appointment made to see the oncologist on 22nd Aug.I’ve returned from holiday yesterday to find a letter rearranging my Oncology appointment to 30th Aug.This will be 5 weeks after scans . Can I assume no  news is good news?? Nobody has contacted me to attend earlier which I assume would be the case if the scans showed something up.Has anyone else had a similar situation??

  • Hi, , I think its probable that someone has gone on holiday, nothing more sinister!! Summer can be slow anyway, and with people catching up on holidays it makes it worse. Fingers crossed for you.

  • Hi . I don’t think you can read anything into it to be perfectly honest. The hospital that I was previously under outsourced the reading of the scans and I remember my oncologist frantically chasing it up hours before my appointment despite the scan having been over a month earlier. It may be that the oncologist is on holiday or that they are aware of how long the scan results are taking so have pushed your appointment back.

Its a horrible time waiting for scan results and the term ‘scanxiety’ is all too familiar. Unfortunately it’s a case of being a patient patient but we’ll all have everything crossed that it’s good news

    Take care

  • Hi Karen

Thanks for your helpful response. The scan results are usually available after 2 days at our hospital so I was expecting a phone call if they found anything sinister rather  than waiting 5 weeks for meeting with oncologist.I’m not a patient patient WearyWearyWearyWeary
