Hi
I had a polyp removed about a month ago and was recently told by the doctor that the centre of the polyp has skin cancer and the outer skin is benign.
He says he needs to consult with others to see what the next step is…and will get back to me within a couple of weeks
I am beside myself. I feel like need to ask questions but I dont know what to ask .
if anyone has anything to share with me please do as I am very scared .
This is by far the worse time the wait for appointments and results:treatment plans. I was so scared and anxious - you’ve done the right thing reaching out. Obviously I’m no doctor - but my mum had stage 4 melanoma - spread to lungs, liver and was given 3 months to live. She had 2 blasts of immunotherapy then they withdrew treatment as ended up in hospital with sepsis yet 5 months later after I demanded a second opinion was given the all clear - not a stitch of melanoma cancer anywhere - although does also have stage 2 breast cancer oh and multiple sclerosis.
The consultants tend to meet one day in the week and discuss all the cases they have - experts in each field such as bowel, skin etc and they look at each case and make a decision together on the best line of treatment. Then they will get you in and discuss the findings. The wait is then assessing any biopsy’s, checking scans and blood results and working out what’s going on. So for now, self care - look after yourself, sleep, eat, rest and repeat and take each day as it comes. We are all here for you - have you posted also on the melanoma page?? Big loves to you xx
Hi
Thanks for your reply. I am sorry to hear about your mum but I am glad she she is still with you . Is she in pain?
I have just started researching the treatments available..did you mum also try to change her diet ? Many doctors on YouTube seem convinced that cancer cells can be minimised by eating the right foods to promote cell renewal .
overthinking, overthinking … deep breathing
I havnt posted on the Melanoma forum… will do so now x
My mum had no pain at all - but then the MS she’s on blockers - also sadly my dad also pancreatic cancer so we have all been a bit in the wars! My mum actually is the fittest of us all at the moment- no more treatment for the melanoma - but for all patients immunotherapy is having amazing results - and I’m sure it won’t be long until you get your appointment.
Do try and keep off google - as you will read it’s outdated and scary! There is a lot of research around T cells - one from Court who is a legend on here. Eating healthily is always a winner but in my mind, it’s keeping active, being positive and taking things day by day is key. I slept for 2 weeks when I was told I had stage 4 bowel cancer - that’s all I could do to get through. Do what you need to do - research the good things like food and mental help - also can get help and advice from Maggie’s centers…and keep popping on the forums! Really do wish you all the best / the doctors will do all they can xx
Hi Ker22
It is a worrying time when you aren’t sure what your facing. If the outer tissue is benign that sounds like good news. Also if they removed the polyp whilst having a colonoscopy again it must be small. Bowel cancer is slow growing and there’s amazing treatments
My rectal tumour was huge and had been there a very long time and I had to have surgery there was no spread
Once your team have their meeting you will know if you need further treatment or just monitoring
Try and stay off Google as I terrified myself early days and none of it was relevant to my case.
We are all different and our treatment is individual.
So try not to worry. Keep chatting here if we can help. If you click on people names you can read their back story

You are welcome. I didn’t join here until couple of months after my surgery.
You can ask anything and put your concerns up and there will be someone that knows how you feel. It’s reassuring, not that I’d wish it on anyone. Families are wonderful but I didn’t want to burden them. Here is a release of tension. It helped me so much and I’m sure it will do the same for you
Im not sure about your diagnosis im sorry. Mine was rectal cancer.
Hopefully someone will be along with a similar experience Take care

Hi Ker22
My understanding is melanoma is a different primary cancer to a squamous cell cancer . Squamous cell cancer is quite rare in Colorectal cancer but more common in Anal cancer . Hopefully it will be completely removed but if you want a better understanding of squamous cell cancers you could have a look on the Anal cancer group . They are a great bunch and might reassure you a bit .
Do you know the location of your polyp ?
Take care ,
Court
