So Tony discharged home today following his liver resection..he is doing well but feeling a bit flat I think and rather overwhelmed ..I think seeing liver metatases on his discharge letter has dented him a bit as well..we have only referred to it as the spot on his liver so to see liver metastasis on his notes somehow felt worse and more real..I think in some ways we were living in a semi denial bubble so not sure if thats good or bad..its just that word isnt it..metastasis..summons up images of all sorts as I am of a certain where that word would be used in hushed tones and shaking heads and doom and gloom when people spoke of cancer when we were growing up.. .but hopefully now his home he will get his mojo back and we can move on from this latest set back.....:x::x:
You send him our best wishes . I think adrenaline carries you so far then reality kicks in . My mum had what I now refer to a healthy dose of denial . It carried her where she needed to go . It’s a horrible word and I do remember one post op meeting the surgeon said he would keep an eye on her lungs and liver for mets and I honestly had to fight to stay upright .
I have no idea how many liver mets my mum had the second time as the surgeon kindly said he found what he was expecting “cancer” , instantly I knew it would do no one any good at that point to know more so we let it slide . I know she had five going in . At that stage I comforted myself in he was a good surgeon who had potentially eliminated it with his tool kit and I held onto that thought .
You just don’t know at what point in the process something gets triggered . My mum’s very wise surgeon said around the two year mark of active treatment even those with the most robust defences tire a bit and I noticed that in mum , if I am truthful in me too.
However it did not stay that way . We all put it behind when she started making good progress .
Hope your doing ok yourself . It’s not easy is it !
However it’s time for you both to focus on recovery and if it takes time , it takes time .
Always here for you ,
