I now have my surgery date. 1st April. I have covid test next Wednesday. I suppose my big challenge over the next 10 days is to avoid catching covid. This is the first time since covid started that someone close to me has it. Did you all work right up to your surgery? Should I try to avoid mixing totally. Don't really want the operation cancelled.
Debbie
Hi Debbie62. I’ve just had a hip replacement and was told to socially distance for 10 days before my op then fully isolate for the 3 days after my COVID test. The COVID cases seem to be increasing again so I personally would try not to mix socially - you’d be so disappointed if your operation was delayed because of something that was potentially avoidable?
Hope the op goes well
Take care

Hi Debbie,
My husband had a bowel operation last October and we totally isolated after his Covid test for fear of anything disrupting things.
Be warned- at my hospital they only allowed one visitor to visit once a week, and that was only after he had been in for 2 weeks. I was his nominated visitor, and had to show a negative lateral flow test before I could even enter the hospital. Look on your hospital web site to see what your rules are. And when he was in high care I had to don apron and gloves as well as mask.
We communicated by email mainly, but as long as you have a phone you should be OK. Good luck.xxx
