Hi Belzy. The actual ‘zapping’ takes about 5 minutes I seem to remember. There can be a lot of waiting around if there is a machine down or a backlog which is why i used to get an early morning appointment. I used to have to drink 3 cups of water so I had a full bladder (although some people don’t but the nurses will advise you) then you’re taken through a cubicle to change into a hospital gown. They then take you through to the room where the machine is and you lie on a hard table - I lay on my front but others lay on their backs - I think it depends where the tumour is. They then shuffle and squidge you about so your tattoos are lined up correctly with the lasers and leave the room. The machine reminded me of a giant ships compass (?!) which whirls around then stops and clicks a bit (which I presume is the zapping) then does it again another few times and you’re done.
Hope this helps
Take care
Karen x
Good morning Belzy, it will take at least 7-10 minutes only but you have to be there 30 minutes before your actual appointment as you have to drink 4 cups of water(what i am asked to drink before the procedure, i was told having a full bladder is essential to minimise side effects later in the treatment). The radiotherapy procedure itself is painless. You will lie down on your back on the table and the radiographer will position you so they will accurately beam the radiation directly to the tumour. As kareno62 had mentioned i am in my 3rd week and the only side effect is my bottom feeling sore. I was given by the nurse hydromol gel and it helps. Goodluck to you and godbless
Thank you Will 66 for the very helpful info, and I,m glad you're coping well with your treatment. I,m not sure what creams to use ,or when to use them. Before or after treatment, or both.Everyone has a different story.I start my Radiotherapy today, and am a little scared to be honest. All the best to you Will 66. and God bless.x
