My dad is currently having treatment for bowel cancer that has spread to his lungs and, more recently, his liver. As a result of the cancer spreading to his liver, the treatment plan has changed to Oxaliplatin and Capecitabine and after three rounds of treatment, he is suffering with dizzy spells which seem to be caused by a significant drop in blood pressure, particularly when he stands up. As a result he is not currently feeing well enough to have another round of treatment and I wondered if anyone else had experienced similar symptoms and if there was anything that was done to treat this side effect.
My husband was on the same regimen but didn’t have that side effect so I don’t have any advice but just wanted to support you. Your care team should have advice (increasing salt intake?) but it’s also good to check in here. My husband had “first bite” syndrome which his care team had never heard of but because I was researching I could explain it to him and it made him feel like his symptoms were at least on track if uncomfortable. I guess my point is to do your research but make decisions in conjunction with your doctors.
Hi, yes I had this side effect to the extent I actually feinted twice in the chemo suite, the just laid me in the recovery position until i came round and then continued. I tended to happen in the 1st 1/2 hour of starting the oxi, im afraid all i can suggest is discuss it with his oncologist and see what they come up with
