My Dad (91) had a tumour removed from his rectum six days ago. He's just rung from the hospital to say he's going for another CT scan this afternoon 'to make sure the stoma is working properly'. Is this normal procedure? He had blood in his urine a couple of days ago, too. He hasn't had any further treatment as it takes two weeks for the tests on the tumour to come back. Thanks.
Hi Scrabble96
My mum has had a few surgeries and has had a scan afterwards for various reasons . It’s good practice just to make sure the bleeding is not a problem but sometimes it’s more to rule out than rule in.
Well done your dad though . I hope he is recovering well .
Take care ,

I've since spoken to the colorectal nurse specialist. Apparently the area around the stoma was very inflamed and, on applying a bit of pressure, some pus came out, so the CT scan is to check how extensive the infection is. Apparently Dad seems ok in himself, so hopefully it's not too bad and some antibiotics and draining and cleaning will sort it out. I should find out more tomorrow as I'm going to see him with the nurse specialist to see what he needs to do with the colostomy bag in case I need to help when he's home.
