Ok so I’m now on my last cycle of chemo 4 in total and looking forward to getting back to a normal way of life Iv been in almost total isolation with just short walks with the dog and the wife doing almost every thing else shopping etc.I just would like to get some kind of idea as to when I can expect my immune system to get back to full strength so I can get back to meeting people outside and eventually get back to work.
thanks !
Hi Tnbiskits,
Well done getting through your chemotherapy, that’s no mean feat and I hope you can give yourself some nice treats now.
I finished my chemo at end of May 2021. My oncologist said my immunity would ‘pretty much’ have returned to normal within a month but would never be as good as it was prior treatment (probably around 95%). After around 6 weeks I felt really good and more like my old self. After 3 months I could manage some quite challenging walks in the countryside – up and down some very steep hills – (far better than my husband). I feel I’ve continued to improve and believe I’m back to near enough my full strength now. I did suffer with brain fog and feel my brain doesn’t work the same as it used to, it’s getting much better but I don’t remember things as well as I did (but again still better than my husband).
Due to Covid I’ve continued to be careful since my treatment finished as I didn’t want to compromise any date I got for my ileostomy reversal, but have mixed with people both inside and outside taking sensible precautions.
Best wishes,
Net77
Thanks for your reply I’m like you and can’t wait to get back up into the hills and out touring on my motorcycle I feel like a caged bird this past year and I’m so excited to get back to normality I’m so lucky living in the highlands of Scotland with everything at my back door just hoping for a cracking summer x
I agree with Net77 . It took me a good 3 months to get back to near normal . A year out although I’m back to walking 4 to 6 miles with the dog I still struggle more with hills but I think it’s because I don’t push myself like I used to . I’m . I remember the biggest relief after my 4th treatment was the fact that I no longer had t take those god awful chemo tablets LOL . I still gag when I take a vitamin tablet now lol , take it steady X
