Hi
Just wondering if anyone else had suffered with leg and back pain after finishing chemo xelox(capox). I finished treatment 3 weeks ago, which I know is not long ago but thought my symptoms would be going but they just seem to be getting worse if anything. My oncologist has said this wasn't a common side effect but my body my just be reacting differently. My gp has said it could be due to the radiotherapy I had 9 months ago or my LARS surgery 5 months ago. So just wondering other people's experiences as I don't know if its down to the chemo or just the combination of treatments I've had.
Thanks
Hi , sorry you haven't had a response to your post. I imagine no one who has had similar is on here at the moment. I'm from the breast cancer group but saw your post was unanswered. By replying to you it will bump your post back up to the top where someone who has had a similar experience might see it this time.
Our bodies do react differently, I was told that a couple of things in my case were not typical or common. I am one year post surgery and radiotherapy and I am still having some pain and side effects. Hopefully things will slowly start to improve for you.
Hello
My mother had a LAR nearly four months ago. She is on chemo at the moment. She had back pain in her pelvis that prevented her sleeping laying down. As a consequence she has been sleeping sitting up ever since. Her surgery has healed very well and she is back to normal activities more or less. She has now begun getting shin and calf pain which could be associated with the lower back pain. She has had an MRI and the results were attributed to “wear and tear”. We are speculating that the joints were stressed in the operating theatre to perform the surgery.
You are not alone with this pain. We have been using Voltorol gel on the back. We use the one which contains declofenec which is an anti inflammatory. We have discussed this with the Oncologist and he is fine with this approach.
Hi again please read
just felt I needed amend my response. Since I wrote, we have had a catch up with our oncologist and he sent my mother for an ultrasound scan. He explained that the recent leG pain could be blood clots caused by chemotherapy. We have had the scan and she does have small blood clots. In view of this you may want to contact your hospital just to be sure.
Beat Wishes.
Hello
This has happened to me just recently. Have been diagnosed with a vascular condition exacerbated by treatment and drugs.
She should definitely see a vascular specialist, they have helped me enormously with the pain.
Hope it gets sorted
