Just recieved the devastating news I now have 6 tumors on my liver. Having had surgery 8 weeks ago and thinking I only had 4 rounds of chemo to get they now have said I will be having surgery on my liver 6 weeks post chemo treatment with follow up chemo after surgery. I was actually talking about this on another chat with  seems my paranoia was correct!

  • Hi

Not what was hoped for , for sure . But this has clearly  got a surgical option and that is the desirable in the circumstances. Hold onto that .  The liver is robust and large and the only organ to regenerate .

The centres of excellence for the liver are top of their game . My mum was not operable at the point of diagnosis so you are already ahead of that curve . They are aggressive with bowel cancer that has spread to the liver and more fortunate than a lot if primary cancers in terms of options .

My mum’s liver regenerated relatively quickly and has remained clear since 2010 and functions well .

However this news is hard to digest and I get that . If you are like my mum it will take time to get your head around it .

The other aspects having chemotherapy first was a vital part of my mum’s plan . It gives potential shrinkage and deals with any micro disease . Better surgical margins when the time comes .

After chemotherapy my mum’s disease became invisible on the scan .

Always here if you need to chat . A difficult day but there is hope .

My mum found the liver surgery and easier recovery than the bowel .

Hold on tight . They still have a good plan to get you to no evidence of disease .

Going to tag in  to share her experiences too !

How did your chemotherapy go ? Remember those cells are now actively being targeted .

    take care ,

A few days needed to process it all but when there's a plan in place we're half way sorted

  • Yes, I agree a plan is at least a pathway out of this. Still waiting to hear. I got covid over a week ago so things are delayed.
JM84, I was like you pessimistic, people said I was mad. But it’s that feeling. You are great, and you like me will get through this part. Courts mother is an inspiration. Take care xxxx

  • Hi , sorry to hear about this setback.  After the disappointment and shock it takes a while to process things, but you will, just take one day at a time.  If there is one thing I have learnt about this disease its to never take anything for granted because things can change in an instant.  One minute your on a path and then something comes along and takes you somewhere different.

As  says, it's very positive that there is a surgical option and they will want to be very thorough with the post op chemo giving you the best possible outcome.

I had a liver resection in Nov and actually coped well with the recovery, I could feel myself improving by the day.  Fast forward 3 and a bit months and I am close to completing chemoradiation.

I hope the chemo was kind to you. Take time to gather yourself and then crack on with getting rid.  Youre on a great path to being cancer free, it will just take a little longer. Xx
