Hi all, I’m new to the group. Rare case of going in for suspected appendicitis and came out of op having had a right Hemicolectomy! Surprise! Subsequently diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer and now awaiting chemo. My question is what happens before chemo begins. I’m in that no man’s land between being told I need 6 maths chemo (8 cycles of 3 weeks each on Capecitabine) and actually starting. My question is what should I expect? What were your experiences? 2 week wait? Longer/ shorter? My chemo will be pills at home 2x a day. I heard Boots being mentied. Is it possible my pills are waiting for me at Boots and someone’s forgotten to call me? Help!
Hi and a warm welcome to the board. Do you have a colorectal nursing at the hospital that you could maybe ring? You are normally given a good few weeks after your op to make sure you’re fully recovered before starting chemo and this is usually within 8 weeks.
I was on IV chemo plus capecitabine and I had an appointment and lots (more) tests before starting. I had a blood test before starting each treatment and the tablets were given to me after each visit.
Hopefully someone who’s been on capecitabine only will be along shortly with their experience. From a practical point of view I found the capecitabine to be pretty tolerable but make sure you keep your hands and feet well moisturised with something like Aveeno with Shea butter and watch for any tingling or redness.

I’ve just remembered that when I had chemo tablets along with my radiotherapy I collected them at the hospital pharmacy which was a Boots.
I think you really need to confirm what is happening by ringing the hospital that you were under and seeing if they have a colorectal support team or even the ward that you were on and see if they can point you in the right direction. Failing that your GP should have a copy of your discharge paperwork and may be able to help?
Take care
