Donating to Macmillan

Back in 1998, I looked after my mother for 6 weeks, after she was diagnosed with Brain Cancer Mets. (They never found the primary source.) It was a dreadful time. She was a very young & vibrant 75 yr. old, & I watched her disappear day by day, with each limb deteriorating weekly. Her GP & Social services gave me no comfort. On her last night, GP wanted to uproot & put her into hospital, even though she had stated all along - that she wanted to die at home. I resisted the interventions - but couldn't have got through it, without the help of Macmillan Nurses at that time.

On her last night, & when it was obvious to me that she was dying, I phoned Macmillan - & they sent a nurse out....who stayed with us until 3am. when she died. At her funeral, I asked for donations - that I gave to Macmillan.

When I was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer in May '19, I found this forum, & immediately posted, & got wonderful advice & replies. I have never found the need to phone Macmillan, but this forum alone has been invaluable to me in the past four years - through my personal cancer journey.

I think it's pay back time - & I want to contribute in some small way. I won't be running up mountains, or doing marathons though. I'd just like to contribute, with the help of others in some small way - to maintain this forum, plus other services Macmillan offer. I can auction one of my paintings for starters, but any other ideas on how I can raise funds?

  • Wow.
I’ve been thinking exactly along those lines myself. I have paintings and I’m crocheting/ Knitting leg warmers I was thinking on Etsy like mine they’re twenty two pounds. I could raise funds by donating all the profits. Then I could keep buying the wool. I wouldn’t charge twenty two. Craft fairs when I’ve got enough.
My daughter has wanted chunky leg warmers for ages so I made them by knitting and crocheting. They’re different. Depends on how many I can make.
Don’t  ask me to bake a cake tho.
I know there’s some ladies raising money for PD on eBay. You can donate your items to them and they sell it.
    We could do that too

Its difficult in Covid times everything is online and impersonal

  • This is a great thread !

I was inspired last week as a random stranger told me he accompanied an 82 year old man to walk 8 miles to raise money for Macmillan .

I love the Etsy idea ! That is really good !

You are so talented being able to paint and use that gift .

    Take care ,
