Colerectal appointment

Just had a phonecall to arrange appointment with colerectal surgeon on Tuesday 15th. Was wondering if this means it will be surgery first. The person I spoke to had no further info, just the appointment date. Already had colonoscopy and ct and mri scans. I know I am clutching at straws, but could this mean just removal of the large polyp and maybe no cancer. She didn't suggest I bring anyone to the appointment.

  • Hi . My meeting with the colorectal surgeon (well it was a member of the team actually) discussed the results of the scans and outlined my treatment plan. My treatment was chemoradiotherapy then surgery then chemo. I then met with the radiology consultant and then the oncologist. Rectal tumours are often treated with chemoradiotherapy first in a bid to shrink the tumour before surgery.

Ive attached a link to a booklet that I was given at my first meeting which may give you an idea of what to expect?

  • I had my results meeting today with surgeon and am going straight for surgery - he did say a lot of people with rectal which mine is do have radiotherapy first but I didn’t need it - not sure why didn’t think to ask so much to take in - but I will need a temp stoma - mine was 3 cm at colonoscopy and is approx 9cm in. I know it doesn’t really answer your question but from what I have read everyone seems different. Hope the appointment goes well. xx

  • My first appointment with my Surgeon involved a chat & when the Op. would happen. For me, it was within 4 weeks. My surgeon & a Colorectal nurse were there. I went alone for the meeting. I think it's always best to go along with written questions. & I've done that for every appointment since I was diagnosed in May '19 - whether in person or by phone.

    Best wishes

  • Hi.
I had the same. Direct appointment with surgeon. He explained the treatment plan. I was just surgery There was a nurse with him and my husband was there. I felt reassured once I knew what the plan was. He said that he would know for sure if it was cancer after the biopsy.
I had a list of questions but he was so thorough there was no need

I think they plan the treatment around the patient.

We are so fortunate having the NHS.
I hope all goes well take some questions with you and ask if you can take someone. It’s great to have support and another pair of ears.
