ive just had a follow up pelvic MRI scan 3 months after treatment when I was put on watch and wait...no surgery....although I could still see something on the monitor during the sigmoidoscopy but the consultant said it was clear.......I haven't had the result of the scan yet...although it was over 3 weeks ago.....I'm wondering if that would be enough to show up any posssible cancer cells migrating to liver or lungs etc ? Does anyone know if this test is enough...or is there any other tests that could check out vital organs...and is it something I could ask for?

  • Hi . The waiting for scan results is so stressful - my last one had a sign up saying that results could take up to 6 weeks although I think it was more like 4 in the end. I had a couple of MRI scans when diagnosed but my follow ups have all been CT scans. There is such a thing as a PET scan but I’ve never had 1 offered. I’m honestly not sure whether MRIs detect cells or just tumours so you could maybe ring the nurses on here for advice on 0808 808 00 00?

Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful

    Take care

Thankyou Karen.....and you are always more than helpful......:) I have now got results which showed as clear....which is lovely...will be having a full colonoscopy in a few months...I haven't had that before...only partial sigmoidoscopy ....I'm a bit worried about that ....as since radiotherapy ...my bowel feels like it's  gone really sort of narrow...so hoping the camera will be able to go through ?!?!! Thanks for always replying and your good advice  Irene x
