Hello all

I sent off a FIT test over a week and a half ago. In the past results were usually back within the week.

This FIT test was on behalf of the screening programme for 60 and over the group.

How quickly should I get the results and if they are taking longer, should I read something into this, please?

Yes, I worry and worry. Had a colonoscopy 2 years ago all ok and a FIT test as GP asked a year ago was all ok.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi there

Im in Bristol. When my husband and I sent ours. Mine came back really quickly as needing colonoscopy and my husbands was clear and took a while.
Also the NHS have said that staff shortages are causing delay because of Covid

  •  Thanks for your help,

  • Thank you Artsie Ann, really appreciate your help..

Like most on this site, I worry too much

  • Update

I like to leave updates as it may help others in due course.

My results were actually posted last Friday via the standard 48 hours delivery route they use. The postman came today 10 am but no letter,

I rang the bowel screening office.

I politely explained my situation and the worry and was initially advised to wait a few more days. I reminded the person that I was worried and post can get delayed but it had been almost a week since they sent it. Thank to the gent and without hesitation, he said himself he's speaking to his manager and update me. He rang back in a few mins and said the manager would call. About 20 mins later the manager rang and gave me the results. They were clear.

(Credit to the manager she read the whole letter as there is good advice in there)

I am not suggesting we all keep on calling the bowel screening help desk but if you have not had your results by almost 2 weeks and you worry like me, possibly give them a call.

Thank you, Ann and I hope everything is ok with you and thanks to the people I rang.

Btw, I do worry a lot since I was diagnosed with bladder cancer over 4 years ago and the yearly check worries me but it is reassuring.

  • That’s brilliant news now you can look forward to a relaxing weekend.  I am delighted for you.

Also worrying is a side effect of cancer. I was worried all the way through my treatment relieved  after my op thinking phew that’s that. Then the very next appointment with my consultation I had a wobbly belly again. If I even think about scans I’m a wobbly belly. You definitely have the right to have a touch of the wobbles you’ve had cancer once. It’s really frightening

This is a brilliant place to share

    Take care
