Hello everyone, I'm new to this group just today. I'm worried sick about going for my results tomorrow after 8 weeks. I don't know if I'm allowed anyone in with me due to covid, and I don't know what I should ask the doctors. Could someone please help me out?

  • Hello Maza

Is it you consultation for your diagnosis and treatment plan?
If so yes it good to have someone with you.

  • Hi Maza, What stage are you at? 8 weeks from what, treatment of some sort or just diagnostic tests? The questions that you may want to ask will be different according to what you will be discussing.

Our hospital is still saying one person only, if yours is the same take someone with you anyway and say you really need someone with you. If that fails ask if you can record the conversation on your phone so that you can review it afterwards with someone.

Come back and tell us a little more and people here will try to help you.

Thank you for your reply. Tomorrow I get the results of my colonoscopy, it was done 8 weeks ago. I have Lynch Syndrome, so I get this test done every 2yrs. I have never been sent for before, so I know its not going to be good news. My 2 brothers also have LS and both have had their bowel removed due to bowel cancer.

  • Wow, Maza, 8 weeks to wait for the result of a colonoscopy, no wonder you are in a bit of a state with it.  Could the 8 weeks be a good sign though? Would they have called you in sooner if it is bad news?

Either way you will find out tomorrow and so what questions to ask. The obvious ones are what have they found and what is going to be the treatment plan, if there is one. If you can't take anyone with you or record it then make them take time with you to understand what they are suggesting, write down procedures or any further tests to be carried out. Above all make sure they give you a contact, such as a specialist nurse, who you can go back to afterwards with other questions you will be bound to think of later.

I hope that it goes ok, let us know the result. All the best John

  • Hi Maza.

If you haven’t been sent for before and you’re family have had bowel cancer I would take someone with you. Like  John said you can have the phone on loud speaker whilst your companion can go somewhere quiet to join in the conversation. But I am hoping that you will be allowed support.

It would good to have company on the journey too.
My husband was invited for the diagnosis and has been with me at each consult.

What a worry for you. I didn’t know about Lynch Syndrone until I looked it up.

I really hope that everything is fine.
    Sending you a hug

Thank you John, yes the waiting is the worst part. I had breast cancer 10yrs ago and I recovered well. This time I'm just so nervous. As my husband has end stage rental failure and is a double amputaee, so I need to be strong and healthy to look after him.

  • Hi Maza,

At our hospital patients with appointments are not Covid tested, but everyone else is only allowed in with evidence of a lateral flow test. Check the rules on your hospital web site. I saw a lady refused admission last week because she hadn't had a test. Good luck.

  • Hi Maza, I not sure if hospitals are the same but I’m sure my one is saying no one to have anyone with them but I’m sure if you negotiate to have someone with you and you give a name in advance they might let someone in with you. My daughter has been in on some of my appointments but her name had to be down at the reception only then would they let her in, sometimes they forgot to give her and it was hassle getting her in. Just a thought. Hope you get on ok. Take care xx
