Hi all, 11 weeks ago I started having diarhoea daily which changed a couple of weeks ago to having intermittent diarhoea.  I also  have discomfort in my upper left abdomen.  My GP took bloods which were all normal and also a FIT test which didn't show any blood in my stools.  Just wondering whether there is always blood or could you have cancer without?  Any thoughts would be lovely

  • hi , I had blood in my stools but I was stage 3 when diagnosed so don’t know if the blood was caused by the stools passing over the tumour and making it bleed? Hopefully someone might pop in and offer some advice but you could always ring the nurses on here for a chat on 0808 808 00 00

    Take care

  • That’s good advice Karen. I had intermittent blood my main symptom was difficulty going to the toilet. My cancer was in the rectum and causing a blockage.
I had been told I had piles. So that’s what I treated. I regret not pushing for a colonoscopy before screening picked me up.
    I ignored it.
Debbie if you feel your body’s not right then you push to get it checked  A few people in my family have had colonoscopy’s through a doctors referral. It wasn’t cancer. I treated mine like piles. I was in denial!
I don’t want you to worry if the FIT test has come back clear it’s probably fine but if it doesn’t settle get it checked.
The nurses here are lovely and can give you medical advice.
