Hi All,

I've been on this forum for about 3 months because my husband had a bowel resection and a colostomy made. Since then he has been in hospital except for 2 weeks at home. And in those 2 weeks we had a dreadful time with him being sick and the stoma working intermittently. This resulted in him being re-admitted with a blockage, which they sorted out. They then decided the stoma was not working as it should!!! Last Wednesday they re-operated and found lots of adhesions which were causing the problem. I just wondered if anyone else has had this?

  • Hi NannyAnny

i haven’t had the same but just wanted to send you a hug. You’ve really been through a rotten time.
Thanks for updating us I was thinking about you yesterday, at least now you  know what’s been causing the problem.

  • Thanks, Artsie.

My sentiments exactly. He had a rough time with his throat cancer, which is why we both thought this would be easier!!!

  • I know it all started with what we thought was a mince pie and that was before Christmas. I have read here about adhesions so there’ll be lots of advice soon.
I really hope you two can have a better Spring. Take care

  • Once I googled Adhesions I realised just why they can be so problematic. My mum had issues with suspected adhesions for a few years following her larger liver resection but they settled . Strange how some people develop them but they can do a lot of pulling if what I read is correct .

Hope he is making progress as he has had such an ordeal .

  • You learn something new every day!!!! The doctors have told him today that apparently the small bowel is normally lubricated, but it can dry out and his had. (Don't know if this is age related) Anyway they have lubricated it during the operation, so that should help.

  • How are you NannyAnny ?

  • Initially I valued some space to myself, but that has definitely worn thin!  I won't be entirely happy until he is eating without being sick!

  • It’s so worrying. You’ve both had a terrible time.
Im sending you a hug   I hope things improve soon.

  • That sounds so painful . I never heard of that before either but logically I can see how that is necessary to work .

Hope he is getting some relieve .
