Hi all, I received my ct scan results over the phone on Wednesday and I'm a bit confused. I was told I am NED with no sign of metastases. However there was a nodule on one lung? Can they tell from a scan if a nodule is cancer? Surely they can't say I'm NED, if there's a chance it could be cancer?? Can anyone shed any light on this please? Many thanks. X
Hi Rochelle19
The lungs are notoriously bad for benign nodules and this comes up time and time again on the forum unfortunately. You did not mention the size but if it was around 1 cm they would send for a PET scan however at around 2 mm it’s more a grain of rice size and the radiologist would not draw any conclusions from something so small . Frequently they have resolved by the next scan or not grown . My mum had three pop up after chemo ! Only one continued to grow and was cancer . The other two have stayed the same for seven years . Absolutely static .
Even the small met that was there was promptly removed in 2016 .
The thing to focus on is the radiologist report and findings of no evidence of disease . Congratulations!
Apparently if you scanned the general population such things would be found but of no concern . Many , many people have them. They can pop up after a virus / infection .

Thank you Court, for your reply. I've been so worried about it, I haven't even thought about the NED and have just thought about the nodule. My oncologist is back from her holidays next week so hopefully she'll get me in to speak about the report. I wasn't told the size of the nodule. I had my op in August and started my chemo 5 weeks later. I finished in the middle of Dec. Do you think if it was cancer, it could have grown on chemo or is it unlikely? There was no mention of it on my Pre op scan. Sorry for all the questions.
I honestly think you just need a bit of reassurance from your oncologist. You have literally just finished chemo and your body healing from it . When I realised the size the new machines were able to pick up I settled a bit . The size of the cuticle in your nail potentially ! The down side is it picks every wee thing up . Trust me if the radiologist thinks there is an issue it does not say Ned ! It suggests it is suspicious of metastatic spread etc .
I think you just need to grab a hold of No evidence of disease. If the oncologist was in any doubt they would ask the radiologist again . It’s their specialty and they have said nothing has been seen of any concern that can be classified as metastatic spread . As my mum’s surgeon said chemo hits every organ and it’s also the middle of winter .
This happens so much around here and it tiggers so much anxiety .
If it was any larger they would be concerned and that would be reflected in the report .
Its also just so different just now as you would have previously had that scan reported in person and perspective put round that from the oncologist.
Such a shame when you have had a good result to have this cloud it .
You are doing great and heading in a good direction .
