Hi all. My mom has gone in tonight for her op tomorrow so certainly got butterflies esp as we can't see her. How long will we know if anything else needs doing? Very worrying time
Hi
Its a worrying time for family. My husband was really anxious I couldn’t wait to get it done and I knew I’d be asleep.
What op is she having?
There will be people on here that have had the same and can support/advice you.
I hope all goes well with you all, it’s rotten that you can’t visit.
Has your Mum got a smart phone?
Ann
thanks. jlutw
It’s really good that you have her linked to you. I found it so reassuring that I could talk to my Brother in Spain and my son in Ireland as well as my family close to home. It meant when I was awake I could really chat when sleepy I could rest.
I had a different op to you mom. Someone will pop in to chat that had exactly the same.
Keep chatting it does help.
Take care
Ann
Hi jlutw1983. Hope everything goes well tomorrow. The surgeon rang my hubby after the op so hopefully your mums will do the same. The tumour and surrounding area will be sent off for testing and the histology report will confirm if any further treatment will be needed - this can take up to a couple of weeks but hopefully you’ll get the results quicker than that
Take care

Hi Karen my surgeon was going to phone my husband but he was called elsewhere and my husband and family were extremely worried.
So if they don’t phone it’s worth ringing them.
I spoke to Joe in recovery I was half in and half out of consciousness .

All the very best to your mum jlutw1983 one point from a carers point of view . They can go into the recovery room next to theatre for a long time . They prepare them for the ward there and then there is a potential wait for staff to take them back to the ward . We have phoned a few times to see if she was ok and she had not surfaced yet . She was perfectly fine and in the best of hands .Just in case you are like me and read into it . Someone should give you a contact person or phone you to let you know she is safely through the procedure.
The surgeon will advise the patient if all went well surgically . The actual pathology of the cancer cells , potential lymph node spread etc takes around two weeks and she may be home before that information comes back . However some are faster and the surgeons able to give the patient that information on the ward .
Take care and I will be thinking of you both .

Ps . Also prepare yourself . The first few days they can appear out of it with meds etc so don’t be surprised if that’s how you find your mum , especially on FaceTime . I found that a bit hard and needed reassurance that was to be expected . Then suddenly they start to turn a corner .
Take care ,
