Hello everyone… hope you are all keeping safe and as well as possible.

I saw my consultant last week about my scan results and there was a lot of info to take in at the time. He told me straight off my treatment (chemo radiation) had been successful enough that I can now have surgery to remove tumour. I’m going in for op next Monday so fairly quick. He didn’t mention the results of my CT scan (I had both MRI & a CT roughly same time).   I asked his secretary who said she can’t give me that information but said she would pass my question on to the C N S nurse to call me. I haven’t had a call yet but I just wondered what your thoughts were. Would he only mention the CT results if they had found something ?

I’m a bit anxious and probably overthinking things… I’m having to self isolate till surgery so too much time to think .

  • Hi  and good to hear that the chemoradiotherapy has been successful. The ct and mri scans are usually done when first diagnosed to check for any spread and then again to check the effect of the chemoradio. If he’s not mentioned anything then I think you can assume that no news is good news and there’s nothing worth mentioning to you?

Hope the op goes well - there’s quite a good page in this booklet about things to take with you? An extra long phone charger is handy too.

  • Honestly I have sat through a few consultations where a spread is involved and this is not the order of events . It will have been through the MDT at this point and thoroughly examined . They are inclined to focus on managing the secondary spread if its present and you would have been informed I would imagine .

    This is good news !

All the best with your surgery.

  • Thank you Karen … that makes sense and  good tip for hospital stay. I’m going to be in for 3-4 days, no visitors are present due to covid.

  • Hi Catz321

You have a right to feel anxious. There’s so much to process.
I had colonoscopy, endoscopy, MRI and CT and I was terrified so don’t be hard on yourself. You’re doing well.

My consultant didn’t mention my results of my tests at all he talked in detail how he was going to get the tumour out. I took that to mean he knew he could get rid of it.

Like the others have said and from my experience I think it’s good news that you’re having the operation.

Take care I hope all goes well. Keep us updated

  • Thank you Artsie … I am starting to feel more positive about it all thanks to the support here. I’m grateful to be getting my operation now and I am having robotic surgery.
The last few days have been tough as I am trying to avoid any contact to avoid Covid as I was told if I test positive they wouldn’t be able to operate for at least 6 weeks after.

Pre-op tomorrow and COVID test end of week… fingers crossed Fingers crossed

I hope you are keeping well.

  • Hi Catz123

Im pleased you’re feeling more positive. It’s a really emotional time. You’re doing well. The Covid  restrictions are so tough on everyone especially the hospitals they’re really doing an amazing job.
Robotic surgery wow. A family friend had it and she recovered quickly so fingers crossed for you.
You can concentrate on sorting your packing for hospital and make a list of things you need. Do you have anyone to shop for you as you’re in isolation? The internets good alternative
