  • Hi . I had a Low Anterior Resection but I’ve attached a link to a booklet which covers all the ops and is really helpful. I’m also going to tag  as I think she had a right hemi.

I think all ops sound scary particularly when they tell you about all the things that could go wrong and the mortality rates but that is something that they have to do for all operations. The actual procedure will be something that they have done multiple times and will hopefully get rid of the cancer for good.

Hope the booklet helps but please ask if there’s anything in particular that you’re worried about

    Take care

  • Thanks both very scary to think my mom won't be allowed visitors and if it bleeds might need an emergency op buy I guess they need to say these things.

the booklet is most useful x

  • Hi jlutw1983

I had a right hemicolectomy and low anterior resection with a temporary ileostomy in December 2020. It was keyhole surgery and I was in hospital for a week. It does sound scary when they tell you all the things that could happen, this is just worse case scenario stuff. Your mum will have a great team looking after her, giving her any support she needs. The surgeon will have performed this op many times so try not to worry. It might not feel like it at the moment but it's a positive that your mum is having this op. Get rid of anything that shouldn't be there. Is it definitely no visits? If your mum doesn't use a mobile or tablet, you should be able to ring the ward to speak to her. It's a difficult time so make sure you're looking after yourself too.
