So hubby has a face to face appointment tomorrow in the Clinical Diagnostics Unit to get the pathology report post surgery to remove his sigmoid tumour..he had a PET scan pre surgery and was told there was some lymph node involvement and he was T3N1M0 and chemo will be needed.we know its an adencarcinoma...I feel unbelievably anxious..does face to face mean its possibly worse news..could the final staging be dramatically different.. the nurse said he could bring me as his wife so my stomach is doing somersaults at the moment...hubby is worrying ..am I just being paranoid..
Hi ellen93. It’s a while since my treatment now but it does seem that they are still doing face to face appointments where they can. It’s very easy to overthink things but I had a face to face 6 months ago and im 5 years down the line!
The consultant will discuss the pathology report and check he’s recovering from the op ok. If the final report still shows lymph node involvement then you will probably get an appointment to discuss post op chemo with the oncologist. My pre-op staging was spot on and my friends post op was better and there were no lymph nodes affected after all.
2 pairs of ears are always better than 1 so jot down any questions that you have before you go and take a pen and paper with you.
Please let us know how you get on?
Take care

UPDATE...Hi Everybody..we went to see the surgeon today to discuss Tony's results post surgery.. we saw the nurse only but she was very to the point.. it went really well..they confirmed they got everything out with clear margins..they took out 17 nodes but only two were affected but everything was contained in the bowel...staging is still T3N1M0..the MDT felt Tony should have the option to meet with oncology to discuss chemo but the nurse said this is something they will talk to Tony about as the side effects may outweigh the benefits so I'm a bit bewildered by that as I thought chemo was a given...they want him to have a blood test for DPD which is standard I think.. it is an adencarcinoma but most likely not genetic but we will know more in a few weeks..she didn't say much about the grade or aggressiveness or EMVI so I'm kicking myself for not probing more...thank you everybody for your support and patience with my questions and panicked moments..
Hi ellen93. So your hubby is cancer free yay! I had 2/17 nodes affected both which were close to the tumour. I was late starting chemo due to recovery issues and the oncologist said she wouldn’t be too worried if I didn’t manage chemo but I did have some. There has been a recent trial which proved that 3 months chemo was as good as 6 months but with less side effects so I wondered if this is what she meant?
I’m sure that things will become a bit clearer once he’s met the oncologist but I think it’s time to have a little celebration tonight?
Take care

Wee email off to their secretary if you feel you need more information. It is a big decision.
The other place you might like to consider is the Nice guidelines . They should give some guidance for any lymph node involvement. Might be beneficial to see what the collective group of professionals in that field recommend.
I have to pop out just now but let me know if you can’t find them and I will try and locate it .
Take care ,

ellen93. I’ve attached a link to the NICE guidelines and section 3.1.14 covers post-op chemo advice for stage 3 with lymph nodes affected
