Following completion of a home test kit I was called in for a colonoscopy 9 days ago. During the colonoscopy I was diagnosed with a single malignant tumour. Within 4 days I had CT and MRI scans. All very quick.
Today the ColoRectal unit had their weekly Interdisciplinary meeting to discuss their cases including mine. They said I will hear from them next when they have been able to allocate me to a consultant. I don't have a date for this.
I don't want to be selfish after their very fast response but am in limbo not knowing when someone will contact me again. In your experience did the consultant meeting come quite quickly after your scans?
Hi everybody.
Thanks SO much for all your good wishes. You were right there in the room with my niece Zoe and I.
The cancer has NOT spread to any other organs or to any of the lymph nodes in distant areas of the body, which was the biggest worry. Nor has it spread within the colon. So it's good news.
There is some swelling in the local lymph nodes around the tumour. This is not necessarily because the cancer has spread to the local lymph nodes, there could be other causes. But they will remove some of them during surgery and biopsy them. If necessary I am guessing they may give me precautionary chemo.
Because of my weight they are referring me to a hospital in London that has a special Porky People Surgery Unit, it specialises in 'bigger people'.
The cancer has been there for at least a year they say and is slow growing so, like one or two if you, I have been told not to worry if the time taken to schedule surgery is a bit longer.
We agreed I will phone them in 3 weeks. It's important to me to keep my shape and not become me overly anxious so I'm pleased to have 3 weeks over Christmas with.my family.
Any and all comments and feedback welcome.
Hope you are all as well as possible and thanks again for being my guiding angels.
Elaine
PS the tumour has not gone right through the colon wall which they said was good.
Fantastic news, again this sounds exactly like my journey. I was also told it hadn't gone through the wall. You do feel a great deal of relief don't you? The waiting on the operation is the hardest part. Best of luck x
What a relief. That’s fantastic news Elaine you can celebrate Christmas with your family and park that until the New Year.
Did they say what operation you will be having?
Ann
