Hi all.
I saw on my notes about KRAS gene mutation, never heard of it, it's never been discussed with me.
Have googled but still unsure
Thanks all

Hi Bud 18, my Mum also has the Kras mutation, as do around 40% of ppl with bowel cancer so it's very common.
You can either be KRAS mutant or KRAS wild type. It is tested to guide the most effective treatment options for different patients depending on their tumour biology. It mainly means that the targeted drugs available on the NHS won't be used on you as they only generally work for KRAS wild type tumours. However, the standard chemo regimes such as Folfox and Folfiri are still very effective. There is a targeted drug called Avastin that works well on KRAS mutations but this is nor available on the NHS.
I'd say it is slightly better to be KRAS wild type due to their being more options on the NHS, but I don't think it has any significance on your overall prognosis.
