Hi all

Just wondering has anyone who has had liver resection then experienced lots of rib pain and feel that their ribs on the operation side were a different position than the untouched side.

Also did you have to have a re alignment of your ribs by osteopath or Chiropractor at all??

  • Hi ,

I can’t answer that but my mum had an extensive resection removing 73% of her liver . I will ask her for you .

I know her liver floated over a bit whilst it regenerated She had no osteopathic intervention .

Well done on your surgery . Great to hear that .

  • Hi

I just had a look at some of the equipment they use in a liver resection to hold the skin back so could see how this would be pulling on the rib cage .

My mum got back to me . She said there is still a lot of healing and settling going on at your stage and she had fluid gathered internally where the liver resection occurred that created a pressure at this post op stage . She said that took quite a while for hers to disperse as the liver regenerated to fill the void . She said it took a while for that to settle completely and feel more normal and pain free .
    Hope that helps .

  • Hello Court

Thank you very much for your reply and please thank your mum as well. Yep that makes sense definitely and suppose I'm expecting a little much at this early stage.

    Thank you again

    Hi,

No sure whether this is the same pain or not but I recently had a stent inserted into my common bile duct by a procedure called a ptc. This involved inserting a wire through the liver. Since then I have developed a condition called Costochondritis  which is inflammation behind the rib cage.

Some days I am in agony and I am on slow release morphine tablets to control the pain. This could last for weeks.

Might not be the same, but just a thought
