Hi everyone, I'm due to have round 4 of Capox on Monday. I'm just wondering if anyone else has gained weight during chemo? I've put about 11 pounds on since my surgery and my tummy looks huge. I have been examined and had a blood test for ascites, which came back OK. I'm not eating anymore than normal?? Thank you x
Hi Rochelle19
My mum gained weight after her surgery . It was a post surgical complication from her liver resection . It was not cancer induced ascites but it was fluid for her . She needed a bit of help shifting it with diuretics . But that might have been pertaining to liver surgery than bowel surgery due to the livers function in pushing fluids through the body ( or something along those lines) . She looked pregnant for six months and had to wear maternity clothes . It did resolve eventually but I think you are right to want to know why it’s happening to you .
Was it your oncologist that ran the tests ?

Hi Court, thanks for your reply. It was the oncology nurses that examined me and did blood tests. I've got an appointment with colorectal nurse tomorrow, so I'll mention it to her. I was thinking i might need sone water tablets to help shift it.
Thank you
Michelle x
My mum got a scan as well to check the fluid was not causing any issues . You could also ask them to get the Dr to examine you . It helped a lot getting the right intervention.
Hope you have a productive appointment . My mum actually found it quite uncomfortable.

Thanks Court, I'll ask for a Dr. to have a look tomorrow. It is a bit uncomfortable and I'm worried if I keep gaining weight at the speed I've done so far, it'll only get worse.
Thanks for your help. X
Hi Court, when your mum has her ct scan for the swollen tummy, what was the outcome? I've just had my appointment and they're gonna ask oncologist about a ct scan. I'm really worried now.
Cheers
Michelle
Hi Rochelle19
I think that is just good practice and part of the protocol . You have a good team There .
My mum had no raised albumin levels ( you have already had that blood test ) and the fluid showed it was just pockets of fluid so they regarded it as a post op complication they were not concerned about . It slowly receded .
Hope that reassure you .

Ah thank you so much for your quick reply. I'm such a worrier and feel really down again after this appointment. Thanks for lifting my mood
