I have recently finished 4 cycles of chemo and a week of radiotherapy with the view to shrink the rectal tumour prior to surgery. I had a telephone call from the specialist nurse to say that the tumour has shown a good response to chemo and following the MDT meeting they want me to have a sigmondoscopy. Has anyone else had this after scan results? I was expecting surgery to be the next step
Hi Happy 14
Yes, after my chemo radiation I had a Sigmoidoscopy before the operation so the surgeon could check the results himself. The treatment had been very effective to the point he thought twice about doing the major op, but did go ahead as planned.
Hope all goes well for you, John
Hi Happy14,
Yes, I too had a sigmoidoscopy one month after finishing chemo and radiotherapy. Like crankshaft, I was told it was so the surgeon could see exactly what had happened to the tumour, and it was all about gathering as much info as they could. In my case he couldn’t see it at all which meant I went on to “watch and wait”. Hope you have recovered well from the chemo x
