My son was recently contacted about doing a case study on his genetics. He was recently diagnosed with rectal cancer.
Overall MRI stage: T3c, N2, Mid rectal cancer
MRF: involved (tumor elements margin within 1 mm of MRF).
Right posterior mesorectal tumor deposit involves the MRF. Left mesorectal lymph node abuts the MRF.
Sphincter involvement: No
Suspicious extra mesorectal lymph nodes:Yes, right internal iliac
EMVI: Yes
He is 38 years old and does not have a family history of cancer.
Has anyone else participated in a case study? Do they just follow your treatment / progress and compare it to others with similar situations? He is going to follow-up with them tomorrow and try to get more details.
Thanks
Hi CRG001
I think they sometimes like to write up clinical aspects of particular cases for educational purposes . Getting permission to write it up allows them to use it for training etc . Their identity is completely confidential.
They would follow his case from the start of treatment and the surgery etc .
Think my mum’s liver resection was actually videoed as they asked her if she would like a copy . Strangely enough we had no desire to see inside her body ! But it was fully discussed with her .
take care ,
