i. Have been having a hormone injection every three weeks for four years. Now I have been told the injection is no working, and that will have to start takings uniting. I have three tumours in my large bowel and one tumour near my kidney. I thought that I would end up on chemo, but was told that sunitinib is the step to take. Has anyone else been taking the same capsule?

thankyou all for reading the above, and help me to decide.

    Hi

Is it a neuroendocrine or Gist tumours you have ?  They have a slightly different treatment to the cell types normally found in bowel cancer .  If it’s a neuroendocrine tumour my mum’s friend had it and used the hormone injections for years as well and transferred to other medications.  All seemed to go well for her in containing the disease . She had been on it for around ten years when another illness altogether occurred. Nothing to do with her cancer .

You might find a bit more patient information on the kidney forum as I think they use it more .
I have linked in the information from cancer research for you to read .

Hello, thank you for replying. I have neurone doctrine tumours in my large bowel a d one near my kidney. I saw the head of my local hospital oncology unit. And he said the injections were not working (what a surprise after four years!). I wanted to start on sunitinib there and then, but, he said read up and the return in one week, don't decide now. Is this capsule really dangerous or is he being ultra safe?.

  • I would imagine he just wanted to give you time to think about it . Although all treatments carry a risk I don’t think they would be allowed to give you something unsafe and it’s certainly been around for a while If my understanding is right . But I can see how it has caused a concern .

Our helpline staff would be able to give you more insight into it as they would have a better overview of medicines . 0808 808 0000.

It gives you quite a shock to hear something is not working . But that is what happened to my mum’s friend . She had to change medicine too ! However I honestly don’t know the name of the ones she went onto .
