Hello, after what has been a whirlwind of conversations and tests I was given a diagnosis of rectal cancer just over 10 days ago. I saw oncologist last week and start chemoradiation in two weeks.
until yesterday I was very detached and it didn’t seem real, when I walked into the specialist cancer hospital it suddenly hit me! I have cancer.  All those thoughts and feelings hit me like a truck.
I am very lucky my GP listened to my concerns and investigations happened very quickly. In addition the tumour has not spread beyond the bowel so with the chemo radiation treatment and then surgery I will be cured.

it is sad to know that others are dealing with it but glad I am not alone and can reach out for support.

  • Welcome .

Sorry you have had to join us on the forum but hope we can off some support as you navigate through this stage in your life !

Its a tidal wave of emotions for people to go through along with the physical aspects ! It’s good to feel less isolated and connect with people who have gone through it or going through it ! I was a carer so I will link in a thread that might be of better use to you as you prepare for radiotherapy !

We are just starting to build this particular thread but some good stuff there already ! Also feel free to ask anything that might be good to get answers to!

The chemo care will have some benefits but you will not get all of them as you will only have one chemo agent to deal with at this stage !

Good to hear your GP listened ! We have a wonderful family doctor who was by my mum’s side for the 12 years she went through the system ! It makes such a difference! Some others don’t have that support which is such a shame !

Also great news it is contained ! Still a lot to process but but by bit we are here to support you till this is firmly in the rear view mirror !

    Take care ,

  • Hi Taliaj

    Sorry you find yourself here

There’s lots of support from caring people here

I found it such a comfort. It’s an emotional roller coaster  the anxiety is tremendous, once you start your treatment you’ll be on the way to getting it gone

Try and be very kind to yourself and if you feel like screaming  Do it!!

    take care

    Ann
