I'm halfway through the bowel prep (glycol-c) for a screening colonoscopy in 8 hours. I'm convinced they won't find any cancer but still feel anxious about the whole procedure. The bowel prep is awful even though I made it up with lemonade on the nurse's advice. Then I have to have the ultrasound team put in the cannula as I have such awful veins. Not looking forward to that part but there's no way I would have the procedure done without sedation. Then there's the colonoscopy itself to get through. I'm worried that I might have an accident on the trip from home to the hospital. I'll be relieved when this is all done.

i feel for you, it’s a challenge isn’t it.
But can I just say I’ve had a few investigations done and the very worst thing was that Bowel prep before the colonoscopy I found it so hard to physically get it down in fact the last 60ml made me sick.
Once you’ve prepped just hand yourself over. The colonoscopy is okay. The medics know what they’re doing and the sedation is perfect, it takes the edge off but you are able to move and talk if you want to. I wasn’t aware of leaks afterwards.
Good Luck with it. I’ll be thinking of you.

Hi Artsie
Thanks for your positive reply. It helps knowing other people have had the same procedure and endured the horrible bowel prep as well. I'm down to approx my last 2 glasses and then wait for it to do it's magic! I've had to set my alarm to wake me up at 4.00am (New Zealand time) so will be quite tired once I get to the hospital. At least there's nothing much to do once I'm on the ward. Thanks again - I really do appreciate your response :)
The bowel prep is definately the worst part.I didnt have sedation but that is a personal choice.you could always take old towels with you on the journey if you are worried along with a change of clothes.I always think that if you are over prepared then you wont need it.sods law.
All the best
Kath
Hi Kath
Everyone seems to find the bowel prep is the worst part of the whole procedure. You'd think by now they'd have invented pills instead of the yucky drink. I've had to take 4 packets of the prep with the last one that I am currently taking starting at 4am NZ time. I'm hoping for an "all clear" result so hopefully this is the last colonoscopy for a while.
Thanks again for your reply - really appreciate it.
Cheers Fee
Hi Fee,
Its really is awful but they need you to be completely clear so they can have a really good look. It’s definitely worth it, treat yourself to something nice afterwards. You’ll be completely cleaned out. it
