Hi all, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2010, had surgery, got the all clear. Then had duodenal cancer and womb cancer in 2018. Had surgery for those and have been all good since then, with yearly CT scan, flexi sig and gastroscopy.
I had my annual CT scan in August and just found out (after two months of waiting for the result and chasing) that there is an area of my liver they want to take a closer look at. I am having an MRI next weekend. The consultant's secretary said they don't think it's anything too serious but want to clarify it. I'm going from thinking "they said they don't think it's serious, so it's probably nothing to worry about" to "oh my god what if it's secondary cancer that's suddenly appeared and spread to the liver and I'm gonna die".
Please, does anyone have words of wisdom or reassurance to help me get through the next week without having a meltdown?
Hi gothsam
You will find many , many people have nodules on their liver and are sent for an MRI ! Kareno62 had the same experience. More to rule out than rule in and probably why you were advised they don’t look too concerning!
You would be amazed at the things that have sprung up internally with my mum since her very first cT scan but I think with litigation they can’t dismiss it without proper confirmation which I think to be fair is good practice!
Even bowel cancer spread to the liver actually has quite a lot of different treatments!
Hope this helps !

Hi gothsam. Yes I had something flag up in my liver but it was a harmless cyst called a hemangioma. These are apparently very common and you can have them from birth and go through life being none the wiser unless you were to have this sort of scan. Good that your team are erring on the safe side and hopefully these results were come through a bit more quickly!
Take care
Karen x
Thank you for everyone's replies on this, they did put me at more ease! I had my scan on 6th November but am still waiting for the results. I tried calling my consultant's secretary every day last week and got no answer, so not having much luck with chasing it. Maybe the slowness is due to covid? My consultant and his secretary both retired since I had the scan so I'm hoping nothing got lost in the handover to my new consultant and his secretary. I do have an appointment with him on Thursday (just routine) but I was hoping to have the results of my MRI before then so I didn't feel nervous about that when going to the appointment!
Hi all,
I have another question regarding this. My liver MRI came back okay months ago but today I got a call to book me in for another liver MRI later this month. Nobody told me this was going to happen. If a liver MRI comes back fine, is it normal to be booked in for a follow up MRI six months later?
Hi ,
How are you getting on ?
I would have thought they would have informed you . Your GP should be able to access the previous scan to see if they suggest they monitor it further . My mum had this once . They wanted to double check three months later but they fully informed her of it .
I would also check it’s not just a clerical error .
Hope all is well .
