Hello all,
My hubby was due to start cycle 3 of 4 today but unfortunately he’s had acute diarrhoea since Saturday so advised to hold off next cycle for another 7 days. Unfortunately due to capacity they cannot start the next cycle until the following week, meaning a total of 3 week break between cycles, I’m concerned if having such a long break will affect the effectiveness of the whole treatment?
Hi Lucy 78
My mum had chemo spread over two years . This happens a lot . Very desirable to want a good run at it but unfortunately it can be full of stops and starts at times . My mum was having chemo to achieve shrinkage and the end result did not seem to be negatively affected ! She had shrinkage each year and a hospital admission etc !
This time of year starts to throw up other seasonal colds etc . One thing for sure the hospitals have experience dealing with it all and will have managed it several times , to be perfectly honest the break did my mum the world of good and set her up each time to complete the second half of her treatment! If he is a bit weakened it will really help him .
Send him our very best wishes !

Hi Court,
that’s great to hear, I wasn’t sure if was like antibiotics, “take regular, don’t miss a dose to maintain a constant plasma level “ but I’m guessing it’s not …. Hubby has stage 3, had very successful colectomy followed by adjuvant chemo for 3 months, he’s usually so fit & healthy & thought he’d sail through but guess lots of people face bumps in the road! Oh yes our son has just started secondary school & is our biggest weapon at the moment! He’s had 2 stinking colds since starting but fortunately with lots of keeping distance & dettol spray we’ve managed to keep hubby cold free! …. Think the bad tummy is from capecitabine, he’s had the full array of side effects this cycle so looking forward to a mini break!
thanks again
Hi Lucy 78. I'm waiting to get started on my second cycle of CAPOX and it keeps getting put back because my neutrophils are too low. It was due on 11th October and I've had a slot booked three times since then and after my blood results come in the slot is cancelled. So firstly, mine will be 3 week gap minimum (assuming bloods come up next Monday) but there's nothing can be done because my body isn't ready for more. But I'm also thinking my slot has been cancelled three times (usually the day before but once on the morning it was due) which must mean that slots become available all the time so could you ask them if they can get in touch if a space appears before them. Just a thought.
I'm stage 2 but with EMVI (there were some cancer cells in the blood vessels) so also getting 4 rounds of CAPOX just to increase my chances of it not spreading. I also thought I'd sail through it, just shows you can never tell. That said the nurse says the dosage was obviously too strong and will be reduced by 20% next time so I'm hoping for a smoother ride going forward. It's a real rollercoaster this chemo malarkey. Hope his diarrhoea clears up quickly and best wishes to both of you.

Hi lizzibeth
Its an absolute rollercoaster isn’t it? Hubby was lulled into a false sense of security with cycle 1 as he wasn’t too bad, apart from the tingles, head fog & tiredness, round 2 has been a whole different ball game! The full complement of sidies! …… a chemo nurse called about an hour ago & had the power to book him in for next week all being well! But said not a problem if there’s a big rest in between, also looks like his dose may be reduced too to prevent the bum waterfall again! Although after 16 loperamide a day it’s still not stopped! ….. I’m really hoping your neatrophils start behaving & like us you can get this over & done with by Christmas, best of luck, stay strong & take care xxx
Yep, I'm really counting on it being done and dusted before Christmas so fingers crossed for all us xx
Should also have said I'm glad he is likely to get booked in next week. That sounds better.x
