Hi all,

Myhusband had a large (6cm) tumour removed from his liver in June. He is about to start chemo, which was delayed by several weeks because of another health issue. However now just three months on he is feeling the same pain that he had when the tumour was there last time. Does anyone know if it is possible for a tumour to recur in such a short space of time! Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Colberta

  • Hi

It is certainly one I would contact his liver team about . Not necessarily because they would automatically think of recurrence but as the liver regenerates there can be some clinical aspects they might want to eliminate. If I remember right my mum had a few issues at this stage as it regrew , pockets of fluid ! She had 73% removed so a lot of regrowing to do . Her liver really is an odd shape now ! So definitely contact his team . They would want to check him out for pain in that area I would think !
If his CEA is a good indicator they may want to check that out and his liver enzymes will be monitored so they may be able to reassure you . But I always erred on the side of caution .

My mum has had two liver resections . The first time she did have an immediate recurrence within three months but they only got to one cm despite being fast growing ! There was absolutely no pain . She had another course of chemotherapy and a bigger resection which did the trick and has no further problems ! That was ten years ago !

I would really give his team the opportunity to assess him and hopefully put your mind at rest !

    Take care ,
