My dad had a colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago and they found a 4cm tumour in the RHS of his bowel. He had a full body CT scan thereafter and the consultant said that they could see a spot on his liver and a few spots on his spleen and so instructed a PET scan to see if they are cancerous. It’s very rare for colon cancer to metastasise to the spleen unless cancer is widespread. Do PET CT scan results usually differ significantly to normal CT scan results? We’re so worried that the CT scan has missed more widespread cancer. He had his PET scan last week, MDT tomorrow. The wait for results is horrific.
Hi Kim85
A few weeks after surgery I had a routine CT scan in April, followed by an MRI in June. Both showed a possible 15mm cancerous lesion in the liver. Kings liver specialist recommended A PET Scan. There was no Cancer anywhere. It had not spread.
Cancer cells show as bright spots on a PET Scan. Apparently a PET Scan can show Cancerous matter as small as 7mm.
I hope things go well for your Dad tomorrow. It must be such an anxious time for you all.
Best wishes

Hi Kim85. I had something show up in my liver too and it was a harmless cyst called a haemangioma. Apparently people can have these from birth and go all through life never knowing unless they have some sort of scan. I think you can also get these in the spleen but it’s good that the team are making sure that your dad has been thoroughly checked over before deciding on his treatment plan.
Take care
