Hi does anyone no how long after operation before you get results from tumour as to whether you do need chemo or not
Hi Lavender60. I had a follow up appointment with with surgical team just over 4 weeks after my LAR operation and was told then that I'd be offered chemotherapy. My first appointment with oncology consultant was 6 weeks after my LAR when type of chemotherapy, number of cycles and histology etc was discussed. My chemotherapy was started 8 weeks after my LAR.
Best wishes,

For my husband, they knew he would need chemo even before the surgery, but he was stage 4. Note that your body has to recover from the surgery before you can start chemo, so in no case would you start chemo before 8-12 weeks after your surgery. And if they want more tests (a scan for example) they will probably do it later to have the most information when they make the decision. I know that is hard- the not knowing is very difficult. Try to focus on your recovery and getting as healthy as possible for whatever comes next. And do call your doctor and ask him/her the question too!
