Hello Everyone,

My wife has stage IV Goblet Cell Carcinoma cancer - it's rare , so rare that he default seems to be to treat it like bowel cancer. She is just about to start her second treatment plan of Chemo - Irinotocan with 5FU and Folinic acid + Cetuximab - but we're not sure if this is the best way to go or more of a clinical reflex rather than a specialist treatment plan.

Do any of you have any experience of Goblet Cell Carinoma or alternative treatments that we might consider?

Muscott.

Hi  I completely understand your concern as the rare cancers are difficult to get a broader feel for . I have linked in a guideline and whilst it’s the 2015 version you can see some care and planning does go into theses guidelines. Some of the consultants mentioned are leading surgeons in Scotland and I have actually consulted with my mum in her long term management of stage 4 bowel cancer . I thought it might give you some insight into the process behind the decision. You will see pathologist input is there and also the attention to where the Goblet cell tumour has originated and the need to be flexible.

Oxalipatin is a bit hitter in my book as it is a platinum based chemotherapy . My mum used that and capecitabine along to reign in a substantial spread to her liver .

The other aspect to consider is what is the factor that makes it inoperable . My mum’s was a spread to the liver . However after six cycles of chemo when shrinkage and stability was achieved we then had a surgical review . So it’s not necessarily that other aspects don’t open up as treatment progresses . It goes back to the MDT  for reassessment.

I always feel for rarer cancers as it’s good to feel reassurance that it has been properly thought through . I hope this helps a little .

    take care ,
