  • Hi ,

I think I remember you posting a while back . Sounds as though on the whole you have handled treatments very well .
My mum had a very small lung met that lit up with the PET scan . But she also has two other nodes that arrived after chemo but did not have any up take and have never changed in five years . The one that was malignant her team got onto right away and they removed it via Vats . She was in hospital for two days and around two weeks later she was mainly over it . It was by far the easiest procedure she endured compared to the bowel / liver or chemo . Her oncologist told her that the radiologists are getting good results using Radio frequency ablation. Some people use that approach .  Others contain it with chemotherapy depending on what their team thinks is the best approach. My understanding in a stage 4 setting they try and balance out what is most effective without compromising the other areas of spread . Or that’s what I took from their explanations.

I think they would regard that as a very small nodule . I know my mum’s lung surgeon pointed out they would not know for sure what it was until they took it out .

How are your children getting on ? Are they off school now ?

  • Thankyou for ur reply, I’ve been reading loads about it not being a massive set back thankfully. When my specialist nurse rang she said their aim is still to cure me the thoracic team will possibly do surgery or radiotherapy on it i feel a lot less stressed than i did i just know it’s probably going to be a longer journey than first thought. Yeah my kids are off now weather rubbish but planning to go places indoor i feel gd I don’t feel ill I totally changed my mindset about a year ago after being mentally destroyed by my ex and I’m so glad i did as I’m coping really well with this diagnosis if this would of been 2 years ago I’d probably be a mess but I’m good i coped brilliantly with the chemo i did have picc line i just endured the pain in the veins and i never complained about all the radiotherapy i just taking it in my stride I’ll hopefully be called in to clinic soon and get scans done soon.. I’m a bit confused about the fact i had PET scan done in December and my understanding is tumours double in size in 4-6 months I’m surprised nothing was seen on the PET scan in December.

    thankyou for replying

Hi I had a tumour that was picked up on just one CT scan and on none of my PET scans .May be sometimes if there is movement inside or sometimes the person interpreting it could make a difference .Either way ,it could be a cyst but whatever it is ,rest assured they will do their best to erridicate it ,good luck x

  • Thankyou I can’t wait to get into clinic

  • You have done incredibly well coping with the whole thing ! I think lung nodules can be quite slow growing at times . I know they monitored my mum’s for two years from 2 mm to 8 mm and when it doubled in value from 4 to 8 mm was when they decided it sufficiently concerning! I am trying to think back but If I remember correctly I think it needs to be a certain size to get the uptake the PET scan requires .
You sound as though you have the process well worked out and it was a case of nipping it in the Bud for my mum before it could do any harm . It was over before she knew it !

Take care and let us know how you get on ! We are holding out for the very best intervention for you .
Despite all that you have gone through your strength for yourself and your children is pretty powerful stuff !

  • Thankyou i was confused about it not showing up on the PET scan so my mum rang my brother in law whos the top liver consultant at the hospital in bristol I’m under he can’t sit in on team meetings as I’m family but he said it possibly was there on the scan but just tiny blips he said next will probably be radiotherapy and or  key hole surgery on my lung to remove it i feel a bit better now I don’t really talk to my brother whos married to jonathan the consultant but my mum relayed the message and that’s basically what i got from that my colorectal consultant is my brother and brother in laws best friend and obviously my brother in law is head of the liver team but just can’t work on me but its still his team i sort of feel lucky I’m in good hands but I’ve definitely had no family privileges i can confirm family are treated excatly the same as non family.. I’ll update when i see dr’s in clinic thankyou

  • How reassuring for you . That was great your mum got to chat it through ! It is difficult with the old conflict of interest aspect but the hospitals go to great lengths to ensure upmost standards are upheld with relatives !
You can relax for a bit and enjoy just being a mum in the holidays . Although at 8 and 6 it’s pretty full on ! I look at that age group now and have very fond memories!

    Take special care ,
