Has anybody experienced a possible reoccurrence from having surgery to starting mop up chemo? I'm so worried my husband had he's surgery in April and started mop up chemo in June he then had a CT scan last week which showed a thickening where he's previous tumor was removed and also some enlarged lymph nodes around where previous cancerous lymph nodes were removed we then received a letter to day to say the oncologist wants to do a follow up phone call appointment next week but its not with the usual oncologist my husband says he feels as if he can feel something again where he's previous tumor was. I can't help but fear the worse please can anyone share any experiences with me of this good or bad please

  • Hi

Firstly I don’t want your husband to have to endure anything more either as you both went through so much !

However scans can be a complete life line as they can often catch things whilst they are still manageable. He has an innovative team and they are going to take good care of him !

These issues are horrible. We got a few bumps along the way but it does not mean they don’t have a plan of action.

I would think the oncologist wants to chat this through with you both ! When was the scan taken ? Was it mid chemo ?

If your mind goes to the thought of a recurrence, as mine did at times , I would also think of treatment options that they might have lined up to balance it out ! One thing for sure he has significantly cut down the tumour burden he initially had . It was more than one step to get to no evidence of disease for my mum but with the help of a diligent team who were all over the details as difficult as it was it ensured prompt action !

  • Thank you Court. The scan was over a week ago and it was just after he's 2nd lot of chemo he has 4 more rounds left it's just so worrying isn't it x

  • For sure it’s horrible . He is chemo responsive and that’s a big plus . My mum had an immediate recurrence in her liver . It was soul destroying to start with . But I did have a belief that she could respond to chemo again ! This opened up the second surgery option that put an end to it !

Not the route she would have wanted to go . However I now  look back at those scans as complete life savers along with her excellent team !

Of course they may just feel it’s a settling process in a newly resected bowel so hold on till you get a chat and I am sending you loads of virtual strength as I get how dismantling and exhausting this is .

    Take care ,
