My mum just had a positive test and hss been referred under the 2 week rule. I am trying to understand the process, we thought she would have a colonoscopy but she has been told the consultant wants to see her to ask her more as she also.has an ongoing uti problem after a bladder repair 3 years ago. She has lost weight & her ferritin was low. Her ca125 test came back at 13. What normally happens next please we are so worried.

  • Hi

Welcome to the forum . An anxious time but a fit test could be positive for many reasons . Even when they suspect cancer a colonoscopy can be their first port of call . However they may also want to get a better picture of her medical history to see what other intervention may be required to help her .

Bowel cancer caught early is actually really treatable. The bowel can bleed for non cancerous reasons as well and they like to investigate the cause to ensure the right approach is taken . It’s important to stop the bleeding no matter what the cause .
Hope they can help her soon and she feels better .

  • Hi  and a warm welcome from me too. I saw a consultant first who checked the results of my blood test and asked me about myself and my family history. He did a partial internal probe but without any sort of enema beforehand it wasn’t very successful. I then had a full colonoscopy within the next 2 weeks.

This waiting for procedures, test results etc. is very stressful but they will make sure they get a clear picture before deciding what treatment is needed. Please stay away from google - it won’t help and there is a lot of scary and inaccurate information on there.

Please let us know how your mum gets on?

    Take care
