Hi everyone, I have posted once before on this site, but thought that I should start a new thread.
I have had my CT Scan and MRI Scan and yesterday the McMillian nurse at the hospital rang with the unwelcome news that the tumour in my rectosigmoid junction is a colon cancer which has already spread to my liver. She said I won't be having an operation, but reassured me that it is "treatable ". She wouldn't stage the cancer and said that i have to meet the consultant first who will go through the scan results with me. This is happening on 8th June.
Myself and my husband cried most of yesterday. Today we are talking with our 23 year old (disabled) daughter and 9 year old son.
Devestated is a word that perhaps describes how I feel.
Thank you for reading my post.
Hi Bluebell51. I’m sorry to hear that the results weren’t maybe as good as you were hoping but please hold on to the word ‘treatable’. There are a lot of treatments out there that may then make an operation feasible. I’m sure court will be along shortly but if you click on her name then you will see her mums inspirational story.
Take care
Karen x
Hi Bluebell51
Please do hold onto that hope of being treatable as it can lead to other options ! Please click on my user name and you can read how she navigated a difficult diagnosis. She got told the same 12 years ago ! Some people respond well to chemo and the hope is it stabilises the spread or gives shrinkage ! Not for all people yet but it has been very interesting to see how much has changed over the last ten years . Until your team know how you respond as an individual they will be cautious with their use of language but that can change once they get a better feel of it . That gives hope !
Bowel cancer that has spread to the liver is a bit more fortunate than some other primary cancers as it has a lot of chemotherapy options and if sufficient shrinkage occurred some surgery or radio frequency ablation ! You will see people on the forums five and six years into treatment and living very good lives .
It is overwhelming and frightening as there are lots of unknowns to mentally handle and for that you have us to support you !
So I hope it gives you a wee lift today to know that someone who had the same diagnosis as you is currently off on a ferry to visit relatives!
It will be ten years ago next month since they removed 73% of her liver ! It’s remained clear !
Her liver looked like a fruit bowl of tumours . We were shocked beyond belief as she had no symptoms and normal liver panels !
So sorry you have to speak to your children about this today ! My oldest son was nine when my mum was diagnosed. 21 now !
Anyway just one persons story but I hope it has given you a little light on a very difficult day !
Take care ,
Court
