Had an op to remove a section of colon re Bowel cancer - started CAPOX on Monday 26/4. Didn't sleep too well on Monday night but only for 3.5 hours last night (Tuesday). oddly, I don't feel particularly tired. Is this normal?

Hi portmen_blue,
Just seconding what suzy Su has said. On my first cycle I didn't sleep at all the 2nd and 3rd night (due to steroids - Dexamethasone). I was advised to take them before 13:00 otherwise I'd be bouncing off the walls at night. The dose of steroid tablets I take has now been halved as I haven't suffered with nausea, (although I still get the full dose as infusion on first day) and that has helped, although I don't get a good nights sleep for the first 3 nights of cycle.
Best Wishes,
Net77
Many thanks both.
I'm taking the Dexamethasone and had last dose with breakfast this morning. 2nd doses Tuesday and Wednesday were with lunch.
Sleep last night was a bit better - deep from 10 til 1, then intermittent.
Fingers crossed for tonight ;-)
Cheers
Good to hear improvement - hope it continues for you. I've just had my 4th round starting today so 3 nights of disturbed sleep for me, but there's an end in sight now.
Best wishes,

Many thanks to both of you.
After speaking with the Macmillan nurse and NHS111 who both recommended that I try the GP for some sleeping tablets. After a lot of phone calls, the doctor rang on Thursday afternoon and agreed. Different sleep last night therefore. Slept 3 bouts of 3 or 4 hours only waking up to have a wee!. Bit dopey this morning, probably due to tablet. Won't use it tonight though as the Dexamethasone should have left my body.
Thanks again for your advice - very reassuring.
Good luck with your last rounds of chemo.

I’ve been on steriods for 7 months now prednisone. I haven’t found them to disrupt my sleep . But yesterday was day 1 of cycle 1 Capecitabine tablets only and I had a really disruptive sleep like I was only half asleep . I’ve tried to sleep today but my body is having none of it . Maybe it isn’t the steriods ? Just a thought ?
Thank you!l so much!
Cannot believe I’m finally at this point, it’s very emotional to say the least!!
This sounds like an improvement for you :-) long may it continue

Thank you so much Court! This forum has been a real lifeline at times for me!
Yes, just the 14days of the tablets then its rest, recuperation & ROAD TO RECOVERY TIME
At the beginning it felt like it would never end but now there’s a bright light & I am very VERY lucky to have been caught early & all indications are very good! So I am feeling VERY blessed & thinking of everyone on their journeys...
