Hello. New to the group so just saying hi. I was diagnosed with stage 4 secondary bone caner (incurable) of the pelvis in July. They are unable to find the primary. I have had a course of radio therapy to help with pain management and just started chemo for palliative treatment. Just wondered if anyone had any advice for how to deal with the pain at night when trying to sleep? I've been told my pain is Neuropathic pain as part of the pelvis has crumbled away and is trapping a nerve, for which I've been prescribed painkillers but they don't seem to work.

  • Hi NIP welcome to the forum. Im so sorry to hear how much pain you are in and how that's affecting your sleep. Thats not good, especially in the longer term re your sleep as that can pull your mood down..Can you speak to the folks in the chemo unit re this and they can get someone to see you and to try different drugs to see if this helps the pain. Neuropathic pain can be difficult sometimes to get under control but it can be done so please ask them.

  • Hi. My oncologist told me she was going to consult with doctors at the local hospice as they are experts in pain management regarding similar pain in my shoulder and arm. Might be worth asking for a ‘second opinion’.

    All the best.

  • Hi GRANNY59. I've spoken to the oncologist about the pain. Apparently I'm not on the maximum dose. As my pain management is handled by the hospice he has advised I speak to them and get the dose increased. I will be calling them in the morning.
