I am soon to start on both. How has everyone else’s journey been under this treatment.
Hi Kenzie . I had chemo and then radiotherapy so don't know about the immunotherapy part for you. My radiotherapy was daily for six weeks and I tolerated it quite well. Got a bit tiring towards the end . I hope it goes well for you. Best wishes.
Thank-you for replying. After 7 days at home with a day and night catheter (perforated bladder during TURBT procedure. Back next week to continue the Op.) I had the day catheter removed today. All well with the healing of the bladder but I am absolutely drained now that I am home from hospital. Had to go to bed. No energy.
Kenzie
Hope the op goes well next week. I'm not surprised you feel drained and this heat can't be helping.
I meant to reply re immunotherapy, which I had after chemo and then bladder removal. Mine was Nivolumab and I managed 3 sessions out of a possible 12. I think there ate newer drugs available now.
Having it was easy, only about an hour's infusion (done in the same way and same place as the much longer chemotherapy infusions via a cannula in my arm.)
However we stopped it because it gave me peripheral neuropathy - nerve damage in hands and feet. I took steroids to damp it down and my hands are OK though feet are still slightly affected. The oncologist said that this would help leave her some options in case of later recurrence.
(The chemo and bladder removal had already left me clear of cancer - so far I still am, over 3 years later. We don't know if the immunotherapy has helped with that but we hope so. So in my case it was additional to the chemo, rather than a first-line treatment).
My oncologist explained everything well and so decision making was easier. I hope you are able to have equally good conversations about your treatment.
All the best,
