Sorry to bother you. Have just had a Cystoscopy because I had bleeding. They have discovered something in my Bladder. Very worried it is Cancer. I have got to have Biopsies. I suffer from anxiety and depression. Very frightened.

Kind regards James.

  • Thanks Brian for your offer.

Ste I had my first Cystoscopy in the unit at the back of the hospital. The latest one I had was in the new Urology unit. I was told that I could not have the TURBT on Pioneer ward. The old day surgery unit looked terrible and pretty grim. I have emailed my GP about my worries over the TURBT and incontinence.

    Kind regards James.

  • I have got an appointment for the 4th December for theTURBT. but have got to go for a bloodtest on 2nd. They did bloodtest at my Pre Op so why do I have to have another one. They are both at Oldham and they a providing me free taxi's.

Still frightened they will remove my Bladder or it will make me incontinenet. They are not doing the Bladder Stone and apparently if it is over 5 mm they have to do it with open surgery. Mine is 12 mm.

    Kind regards James.

  • Hello James (

Well that's good news that the NHS is looking after you and that the wait for the TURBT is not too long. Free Taxi transport is a good do too.

They get you in a couple of days before the operation to run some bloods to get an exact match so that on the day of the operation they know the have the exact match in stock should they need it.

Attached is our guide to the TURBT operation.

I am sure if you have any questions to ask - the good folk on this forum will answer them for you (I will try and stick to what I know!!).

You will be fine and they can't just remove your bladder without your consent. Stick with us we as a Community are 100% with you here.

    Kind Regards - Brian.

  • Hi James. In most cases you are home on the same day, but prepare for an overnight in case you go down late. They will scrape away any offending cells and send sample for analysis. The results take a couple of weeks and then determine the next step. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Retrovanian, maybe it will help to know that the people who do TURBTs are usually not those who do bladder removals - the latter are often trained to operate using a robot. And to get that far takes a lot of discussion, preparation and the like.

You will be given a consent form to sign for the TURBT and it will be clear what they will do.

As for incontinence, I know it worries you. All I can say is that the TURBT did not affect my continence in any way. And I'm confident others would say the same.

    Good luck.

After this next step you will know a lot more about what is going on in your bladder now.

  • Just want to echo previous message. No one will do any procedure without your clear consent. It’s all scary though. Heart️

  • Thank you so much to all of you. These post help me put things in perspective. I am still worried about my Bladder Stone removal, I really don't want to be cut open for that.

    Kind regards James.

  • Talk to your doctors. They will listen to you. It’s horribly scary. But you still have the ability to say yes or no. To anything.  All good wishes to you x

  • Hi James, do you have anyone at home to look after you overnight after the TURBT? My hospital would not have let me go home if I lived alone. My Husband had to come to the ward to collect me. I would definitely pack an overnight hospital bag if you don't have someone to stay with you after the surgery.

Sending you all my best wishes.

    Love Ade xx

  • Thank you your helpful comments. Ade I should be in overnight as I live on my own. I nearly had an accident today so I have ordered some Tena Men Active pads 1010 ml so I don't how mcuch they will hold. Enough I hope because I get extreme urgency sometimes. This is a symptom of Bladder Cancer and I think it is getting near my Sphincter.

    Kind regards James.
