Hi guys

I’ve been lurking in the forum since advised about it by a friend.  I was diagnosed with bladder cancer back in April and at present I’m recovering from my surgery which took place last Friday.  Hopefully getting home tomorrow minus bladder, lymph nodes and prostate.  Instead a I have a lovely new stoma bag.Grin

All of your posts have been very helpful in preparing me for what I went through and what I might expect.

by way of an introductory question, I seem to be getting an itchy red rash around the bag and around my tummy.  They provided me with Manuka honey bags.  Any advice?  I would have thought they would be hypoallergenic.  Should I ask them about another product?

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the group. You will get plenty of support and advice here as you go forward. I had a different treatment but I am sure others will be along to share experiences. I hope your recovery goes well. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Dabbling artist,Welcome to the group.Yes I would ask the stoma nurse about the rash and whether you need a change of product. How are you feeling ? Best wishes Jane

  • Thanks for the reply.  I feel really well considering,  according to the consultant it’s all gone but just waiting on a few results to officially confirm.  I love the very practical advice, shared experience and reassurance that you all offer us newbies.

  • Good to hear you are feeling well.Fingers crossed you have a smooth recovery.Best wishes Jane x

  • Hi

I’ve tried the Manuka bags and found them really nice. However there are other hypoallergenic products available which might suit you better. You might be allergic to the adhesive.  I have trialled products before from a company called Trio Health Care-they had some bags with very neat seals I tried at one point which you hardly felt you had on. Your stoma nurse will be able to advise on potential products which might suit you and there can be a lot of trial and error in these early days! I know I tried loads!

I found calomine lotion really soothing if I have itchy or raw skin-lightly wiped round on the skin with a cotton wool pad and then gently dried with a hairdryer on a cool setting before putting the bag on.

All the best with your recovery.

  • Hi Dabbling artist, Great that your recovery is going well and i hope you get your irratation rash sorted soon.

Does it feel any different inside physically ? When i had my kidney removed people asked me the same question.

Please ignore if the question is too forward.

    Thanks...Del.
