My husband has bladder cancer had TURBT 2 months ago, followed by re-resection blue light cystoscopy 4 days ago awaiting biopsy results. Cancer in membranes and lining non muscle invasive and has not spread told pT1 grade 2(low) muscle present and clear - from doctors report. Talking about BCg 6 weeks on 4 weeks off over 1-2 years, we are reeling from length of time and feeling overwhelmed

  • Hello  and welcome to the group although sorry to hear your husband has bladder cancer. The good thing is it seems to have been caught early. We know bladder cancer has a high rate of recurrence and so the BCG protocol is designed to help prevent this. Usually a six week course followed by regular maintenance over a couple of years with regular flexible cystoscopies to keep checking all is well. Most people tolerate it well while others do have some side effects. I am sure people here will be along to share experiences. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • That’s really rotten luck, it’s a huge shock, but he is doing the right thing and in the best hands getting treatment, stay positive,

  • If any consolation, many of us have had the same experience and reactions. Mine began in March of this year and the diagnosis and TURBT in July/August. I have just completed the first six weeks of BCG treatment. Initially, the waiting and uncertainty (e.g. pathology) are very difficult, and adapting to the diagnosis and treatment is taking me months. Improvement is gradual. Stay strong as this will slow your life down at least in the short term. I am no expert but have felt and continue to feel all you describe. I appreciate the support I receive here from others who very much understand what I am going through.
