Low platelets

Hi.  I suppose that I can be regarded as a success story as I have been dealing with this illness for some 20 years.   I have been diagnosed with cancer now with the cancer in tge muscle but due to my age I have decided to go down the chemo/radiotherapy route.  I had my first chemo session a week ago but when I arrived today I was told that my blood platelets were too low and so it has been rescheduled for 2 weeks time.   Will this delay affect my chance of recovery given the delay.    Thank you.

  • Hi  and welcome to the group although sorry to hear how long you have been dealing with this. Chemo delays owing to low blood counts are quite common. I had a couple of delays stretching my 6 weeks to 8. I was told it should not make a great deal of difference in the long run. In extreme cases they can medicate but prefer for things to recover naturally. The chemo halted my growth and then I went on to chemoradiation. Happy to answer any questions re radiotherapy if I can. Best wishes

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Thank you for your thoughts.   It is reassuring as it is taking so long to get on with the treatment but perhaps I am just impatient.   Once again thank you. B
