Hi, I’m new to this group.

I had a cystoscopy on November and was diagnosed with a malignant tumour in my bladder.. I’m having pre op next week and surgery week after. I’ve had a CT scan and told results nothing to worry about which is a great relief. However I have no other information about what’s going to happen after surgery which is stressful

  • I should have said Cystoscopy was November 7th

  • Hi  and welcome to the group. Sorry to hear you have bladder cancer but this is the best place to be. Many of us have been through this and know how the early days of uncertainty can be scary. . The op you will be having is called a TURBT (trans urethral resection of bladder tumour). It sounds worse than it is. Usually done in day surgery but prepare for an overnight. The offending cells are scraped away and biopsies taken. It takes a few weeks to get the results and the results then determine the next step. In the meantime, stay away from Google as there is a lot of out of date or wrong information out there. Feel free to ask anything. Lots of experience and support here. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Frank123 sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with Bladder Cancer. I was first diagnosed last November so been on this journey for a year now. sounds like your on a similar start as i had. the procedure your having as others have said in the chat will involve scraping away the cancer cells and going for biopsy to determine grading. the biopsies results do often take some time to come back my first ones took 9 weeks. This caused no end of worry and like yourself i was told very little as to what to expect. my best advice would be to ask plenty of questions and ask for information on all aspects including potential next steps, time frames etc. i found information only comes when you push them for it.

I wish you all the best of luck with your journey and this group has been a great help both in support and information and also to help you realise your not alone. est of luck and will follow your journey.

  • Hi Frank

I'm supporting someone with bladder cancer. He had the tumor removed and biopsies taken and came home the same day. Everyone is different and there are different types of bladder cancer so I would try not to worry until you have the operation and have heard from the MDT, (multi disciplinary team) on their findings, which can take a few weeks after the op (TURBT). Keep eating well, plenty of water and sleep, build yourself up, avoid getting a cold or flu as much as you can.

    Best wishes

  • Thank you Polly, I really appreciate your response. Im finding the lack of information and communication from the hospital and the waiting difficult.
